Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important official commented the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
