19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents the player's first trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since that period of 2023.
Success also indicates he has won 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.
His retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serve.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the last five points to go ahead.
Both players traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
Moutet rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
